Prepare a photo for a maximum KB upload limit
Understand dimensions, file formats and target-size compression.

Write down all the requirements
A form may specify width, height, maximum file size and permitted format independently. A photograph can meet the KB limit and still be rejected because its dimensions are wrong. Use the application instructions as the source of truth. Here, one KB is treated as 1,024 bytes; a portal using decimal kilobytes may need a slightly lower target.
Set dimensions before tuning quality
Start from a clear original. Set the desired width and height, then select fit or fill. Fit keeps the whole photograph and can leave margins. Fill covers the frame by cropping its edges. Stretch distorts proportions and is usually unsuitable for portraits or signatures.
Understand the maximum-size result
Resize to KB exports JPEG. The tool first lowers JPEG quality and, when that is not enough, reduces dimensions. The output is designed to stay below your chosen maximum, not to equal it exactly. Review the reported final width and height. Do not accept smaller dimensions if the destination requires an exact pixel size.
Inspect before submitting
View the result at normal size and at a larger zoom. Check facial detail, signature strokes and the background. Keep the source file so you can try a different setting. A successful local conversion does not guarantee acceptance by a passport, examination or employment portal.
