Choose between background removal, blur and an opaque cover

Different image operations solve very different problems.

Flat backgrounds suit color matching

Solid-background removal compares every pixel with a selected color. It is useful for a simple logo or object photographed against a consistent backdrop. Raising tolerance removes more nearby colors, including any similar colors inside the subject. This is not automatic subject recognition or an AI cutout.

Review edges at full size

Soft-edge controls make the transition to transparency less abrupt. Inspect thin lines, hair-like detail and light-colored parts of the subject before downloading. A preview that looks correct on white may show rough edges on a dark background. Keep the original available for another attempt.

Export transparency in a suitable format

PNG and WebP can store transparent pixels. JPEG cannot. The background-removal tool therefore offers PNG and WebP output. Converting the result to JPEG later will require a solid background and may introduce compression artifacts around edges.

Do not confuse blur with secure redaction

The region tool lets you position a rectangle manually and choose blur or an opaque cover. A weak blur may leave letters, numbers or faces recognizable. When information must be hidden, an opaque cover is the clearer choice, but review the exported pixels and every other visible occurrence of the information.
